The final week with my cast…

Monday was a pretty good day, when you start your day with a massage nothing can go wrong. After my massage we did a little bit of personal care and then I pretty much rested the rest of the day until Rosa got here to give me a nice long hot bath, a nice end to a nice day. Heather came by and I could see her cooking away in the kitchen and my house smelled wonderful. I watched a couple of episodes of Dr. Phil and then try to go to sleep. My brother David is coming tomorrow from Georgia and I'm so excited.

Tuesday was another great day. I got up and took Robby for a cruise through the lagoon, down to the end of the wharf and back and we practiced a couple of commands in the driveway. We rested for a while and my brother Dave showed up. We sat around and talked for a while and then went to OfficeMax to get a few things to redo my computer, It's been running really slow. The plan was to back up my computer, completely erase everything and reinstall everything. we went to Chipotlas and got dinner and came home in time for Teresa to put me to bed and then we visited a little more.

Wednesday was an awesome day, the day after been waiting for for 4 weeks. I got up and visited with my brother for a little bit and then Teresa came and got me and took me to Valley medical Center to get my cast off. I'm always really nervous about the saw that they use, I know that it won't cut skin and they show me that it won't every time but it still freaks me out… if it does cut me I am in the right place so I don't know why I worry. Along with Dr. Hentz, Dr. Shem, Dr. Yim, a couple of interns, Lisa from the research department, Sue and another lady from occupational therapist was there. Sue was my occupational therapist 18 years ago when I was 1st injured, it was great to see her and she looked exactly the same… I don't know how she does it. I expected my arm to look all shriveled up and flaky but it actually didn't look that bad. There was still a couple of places where the stitches are, they are supposed to dissolve in time. Sue and the other OT took me back to where they work and made me a splint to wear for a couple of more weeks but everything looks great, they do such a good job there and they are such nice people. We came back home just in time for Rosa to come and put me to bed. Dave came in and we started to work on my computer. We deleted a bunch of stuff and Dave explained to me what makes a computer run slow and we decided to see how it runs for the rest of the night and decide if we really need to wiped out everything and start over or if we deleted enough to make a difference, so far it's running really great and much faster.  The stitches are in the exact place that I used to drive and to use my mouse, they think I'm going to have to take it easy for a couple of days.

Thursday was just an awesome day. I got up and took Robby for a long cruise and then came back and my brother and I went for a tour of the Santa Cruz guitar company. I knew it would be interesting but I didn't know it would be totally amazing, Richard kept everything very interesting. Richard is the owner and loves to give the tours himself and he is such a caring and awesome guy. Before we went we stopped at the Surfrider Café to get some hamburgers, I had been wanting to take my brother there for a long time because they have KILLER hamburgers and they make their own buns right there. We got home just in time for Teresa to put me to bed, what great memories.

Friday was also a pretty awesome day, the weather was great. I took Robby for a really long cruise and then came back and my brother was smoking/barbecuing a prime rib roast, it smelled really good. She put it on some cedar planks and then broke it up with some barbecue sauce that he made. My mom brought some vegetables and my uncle and aunt brought a salad, what a great meal. Teresa came by and put me to bed and I visited with my uncle and my brother for a while, tomorrow my brother is going up to my older brother Stanley's house for a surprise party for David. David got a really nice hotel by the water for tomorrow night in San Francisco and then he flies home. This visit we got to do a little bit more fun stuff so was awesome.

Saturday I was just exhausted, I could not keep my eyes open for anything. I planned on getting up and cruising around but I just couldn't make myself, I ended up sleeping all day. My aunt came by with Luana and Malaya, they are so cute. They love to go out in my yard and pick the flowers. I did watch a couple of movies one called Straight A's and the other one was called Dorfman, they were both pretty cute. I slept for a while longer and Rosa came to get Robbie and I something to eat and straighten up a couple of things, she ended up leaving because I kept falling asleep. I watched a couple episodes of Hoarders and hoped that I would be able to sleep all the way through the night, it's going to start getting beautiful outside and I'm so glad to have that big bulky cast off.

Everyone is always trying to throw things away in my house, everybody thinks I buy things that I don’t need and I spend way too much money. I was watching hoarders and the lady said something on the show that really hit me… “So many things in my life have been taken away from me that I didn’t want taken away, maybe that’s why I have a hard time when people are trying to throw my stuff away that THEY don’t think I need anymore?

Sunday was an awesome day. The weather was perfect and Robbie and I got to go on a extra long cruise. We ran into a lady with a guide dog puppy at the Boardwalk. I came back and talked to Heather for a while and then Rosa came to put me to bed and do some personal care, I love doing my personal care in the evenings so I can get up and out here in the mornings. We have been having to ice my arm down every night because it's so swollen after I go to bed. I try not to drive my chair with the lower part of my wrist where the stitches are but that's where I always seem to go. I can see the results now and it's looking good though so it's all worth it.

I bet that guitar company tour was great, Tammie! My husband would have loved it; he plays guitar. Glad you got your cast off too! I bet that was such a relief!!!
